Download Skype Application

Skype is a proprietary Voice over IP service and software application.

Skype was first released in 2003 written by Estonian developers Monish Mohan, Priit Kasesalu, and Jaan Tallinn, Danish Janus Friis, and Swedish Niklas Zennström, who had also originally developed Kazaa. It developed into a platform with over 600 million users and was bought by Microsoft in 2011 for $8.5 billion.

The service allows users to communicate with peers by voice using a microphone, video by using a webcam, and instant messaging over the Internet. Phone calls may be placed to recipients on the traditional telephone networks. Calls to other users within the Skype service are free of charge, while calls to landline telephones and mobile phones are charged via a debit-based user account system. Skype has also become popular for its additional features, including file transfer, and videoconferencing. Competitors include SIP and H.323-based services, such as Linphone and Google Voice.

Skype has 663 million registered users as of the end of 2010.  The network is operated by Microsoft, which has its Skype division headquarters in Luxembourg. Most of the development team and 44% of the overall employees of the division are situated in Tallinn and Tartu, Estonia.

Unlike most other VoIP services, Skype is a hybrid peer-to-peer and client–server system. It makes use of background processing on computers running Skype software. Skype's original proposed name (Sky Peer-to-Peer) reflects this fact.

Some network administrators have banned Skype on corporate, government, home, and education networks, citing reasons such as inappropriate usage of resources, excessive bandwidth usage, and security concerns.

On January 9, 2013, Microsoft revealed that it intends to retire Windows Live Messenger in favor of its Skype service, although Messenger will continue in mainland China. Microsoft transitioned all users in April 2013.

Download WhatsApp Messenger

WhatsApp Messenger is a proprietary, cross-platform instant messaging application for smartphones. In addition to text messaging, users can send each other images, video, and audio media messages. The client software is available for Android, BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, iOS, Series 40, Symbian (S60), and Windows Phone. WhatsApp Inc. was founded in 2009 by Brian Acton and Jan Koum, both veterans of Yahoo!, and is based in Santa Clara, California.

Competing with a number of Asian-based messaging services (like LINE, KakaoTalk, and WeChat), WhatsApp was handling ten billion messages per day as of August 2012, growing from two billion in April 2012 and one billion the previous October. According to the Financial Times, WhatsApp "has done to SMS on mobile phones what Skype did to international calling on landlines."

Download Spotify

Spotify turned the world of online music streaming upside down, providing users with access to a massive music catalog anyplace, anytime.

While comparisons with other similar services – such as Last.fm – are inevitable, Spotify has certain characteristics that make it stand out from the rest. You can search the entire Spotify music database in several ways (by artist, album, genre, decade, label brand…), create as many playlists as you want and share them with other users, and learn more about your favorite bands thanks to extensive, highly detailed biographies. Spotify also helps you discover new music through the “Related artists” and Radio service.

There are three types of Spotify accounts: Open, Unlimited and Premium. Free is limited to 10 hours of free ad-supported a month (approximately 200 songs) and lets you play each song up to five times. Unlimited has no ads and no playback restrictions. Finally, Premium includes high-quality MP3 (also with no ads or restrictions) and also includes an offline mode for playlists.

The one big criticism of Spotify was the lack of social features. Luckily the developers took note of this complaint and include a bunch of new social elements in Spotify’s next version – together with the Library, a centralized area from which you can manage your music collection – including Spotify’s lists and your own MP3 files, which you can now import into Spotify from your hard drive, your Windows Media Player Library or your iTunes library.

The brand new features included in the latest version of Spotify now let you manage and sync the music in your iPod, iPhone or Android. Also, the Spotify mobile app has been made available for anyone, and not just Premium users. Last, but not least, Spotify has launched its MP3 download service, thanks to which you can buy and download individual songs and also your custom playlists. The price depends on the number of songs you want to download – the longer the playlist, the less you pay for each track. You can pay with credit card or Paypal, though the latter is not accepted if you only purchase one song.

Just like a good wine, Spotify gets better with age. If you don’t mind the limitations in the Free version (or you’re willing to pay for the Unlimited/Premium one) it’s probably time to ditch your old desktop music player.

Spotify lets you browse, play, share and buy music, including not only your lifelong favorite bands, but also brand new styles and artists.

Spotify Stealer Downloadify Destroyed, But Piracy Continues: 3 Alternative Ways To Download Music For Free

By Ryan W. Neal.

For a few hours on Wednesday morning, the digital music community was shocked by Downloadify, a new extension for the Google Chrome Web browser that allowed users to permanently download any song from Spotify. After installing Downloadify for free from the Chrome Web store, all you had to do was start playing a song on the Spotify Web player, and Downloadify would download a full, DRM-free MP3 of the track to your hardware.

Spotify and Google moved quickly to disable the extension. Spotify patched its Web player to prevent Downloadify, and Google Chrome removed Downloadify from the Chrome Web store for violating the terms of service. Downloadify was down before it could disturb Spotify’s contracts with record labels.

Spotify’s premium service allows users to store files locally for $10 per month. But while Downloadify essentially gave anyone complete access to Spotify’s 20-million song library for free, the blame still lies largely with Spotify, which failed to encrypt its Web player, according to Tweakers.

Unfortunately, issues like this are bound to crop up again. Even as online piracy as a whole is decreasing, the pirates will always be a step ahead. Here are three popular ways people are still downloading music for free.

Torrents

Torrent files are actually information about another file or folder, such as an album or movie. The content is divided into very small pieces, and the file tells a torrent client like BitTorrent or uTorrent where to download all these pieces. Because the information is spread out through multiple sources, download speeds are usually much faster than they would be from a single source. Users find torrents from massive online databases, such as the notorious Pirate Bay.

Ripping From YouTube

Not as popular as Torrents because it can be complicated and often results in poor quality, programs like Media Converter allow users to save YouTube videos to their desktop. With so many artists uploading music videos to YouTube, it’s a pretty big database.

Filelockers

Websites like Megaupload, Rapidshare and Mediafire allow users to back up their files in the cloud and provide a code in case they ever need to download it again. Some users share these codes on discussion forums and Usenet newsgroups, allowing others to directly download the file for themselves. As a result, filelockers have been controversial, and the founder of Megaupload is currently involved in a fairly high-profile legal battle with the U.S. government.

Downloadify lets Chrome users copy MP3s of Spotify songs

By Stephen Shankland.

A Chrome extension lets people copy any music file from Spotify's browser-based player. It doesn't play well with Google's developer agreement, though.
....................................
A developer published a Chrome extension called Downloadify designed to let people download MP3 copies of the songs they stream over Spotify's Web-based player, but it quickly disappeared from the Chrome Web Store.

"Simple Chrome Extension to Download all Spotify Songs," reads the Downloadify description on GitHub. "Spotify made a great html5 player for their service...But they forgot their encription [sic]...Hey, I don't like encription but love spotify, just pay them for their magnificent content and I am sure they fix it soon."

The extension presents a dialog box that lets a person save a song as soon as it starts playing.

Google apparently booted the extension from the Chrome store.

That's no surprise. According to the Google Chrome Web Store developer agreement, those writing Chrome extensions agree that they "will not engage in any activity with the Web Store, including the development or publication of Products or other materials, that...infringes on the intellectual property rights of others [or] enables the unauthorized download of streaming content or media."

However, squelching the extension might not be easy. Its methods are visible, since the developer published the code on GitHub.

Spotify said it was looking into the matter. Google declined to comment on the specific case but said, "We remove apps from the Chrome Web Store that do not comply with our terms of service."

For Spotify, the timing couldn't be worse. Its licensing agreements with all three major labels are up for renewal this year, and the company is deep in negotiations with Warner Music Group and Universal, according to sources familiar with the discussions.

The company, which recently crossed the 5 million subscriber mark, is pushing for better financial terms from the labels and a deal that would let it offer a beefier service for mobile users. Spotify has become the No. 2 digital revenue source for all the labels, behind Apple.
